When we encounter obstacles, difficulties, and adversities in life, we instinctively want to fight them.
But there’s also another way. We can wait it out, embrace them, ignore them, and even use some of them to our advantage.
The structure of a gourd contains veins that radiate throughout the plant’s walls. They were an important element in its life,
but in the dried fruit, they constitute a flaw when transforming it into a sculpture.
They are difficult to remove; they are embedded in deeper layers of material
at various depths.
This time, I decided not to fight them, but to use them as a decorative element.
I return to organic motifs, to the flower, which has numerous visible veins in its petals.
Some of these, the thicker ones, are natural,
others I added during the carving process so that they harmonized with the whole.
Shading the polished elements while maintaining these
organic elements was quite a challenge. Furthermore, the perforation was symmetrical,
regular, and consistent with the carved flower.
